How to choose your trip to morocco

Morocco is one of the most popular adventure travel destinations, with it's wide variety of attractions and easy accessibility for European travellers. Most tours either encompass all of the country or focus on the south in and around Marrakech, with the historical cities and ruins of the north an alternative destination. There are many options for cycling, family and other specialist tours. Morocco is also a great trekking destination, with the option of climbing Mount Toukbal or more extensive exploration of the Atlas Mountains.

With over 200 holidays to choose from, KE Adventure Travel has one of the very best collections of trekking and walking holidays worldwide. Graded on a scale from 1 to 12, we have holidays to suit everyone. Our tougher treks are likely to involve multi-day hikes through wilderness regions, with porter support and tented accommodation. Whilst at the other end of the scale, our softer walking holidays are more likely to be hotel or lodge-based with a day-walk format and an emphasis on uncovering the area's history, culture and cuisine. From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

Trekking across the High Atlas

22 days       from  £995 excl. flights*

Viewed from Marrakech, Morocco's snow-capped Atlas mountains provide inspiration for a fantastic trekking holiday in Morocco. Our stunning trekking itinerary begins in the picturesque Bou Guemmez Valley and leads south-westwards through the impressive Atlas range, which includes North Africa's highest peak. En route, we visit the fortified villages of the friendly Berbers and climb on good trails through remote and often uninhabited valleys to reach high and scenic camping places. We have included the option of ascending three of the Atlas' high peaks, Mgoun (4068 metres), Anghomar (3608m) and Jebel Toubkal (4167m). Rich in cultural interest and wildlife, this is recognized to be one of the finest mountain walks in the world. On our return to Marrakech, we have time to explore the old Arab quarter, famous for its souks (markets) and for the quality of its handicrafts. This is the ultimate Atlas Mountain adventure holiday. Please note that we are selling this trip in conjunction with our partners at Allibert (France's leading independent adventure travel operator). As a result, these groups, which are led by an English-speaking Moroccan guide, may have an interesting cosmopolitan mix.

Trekking Mount Mgoun in Winter

8 days       from  £795 excl. flights*

The Atlas range of mountains is the largest in all Africa, extending through Morocco for some 500 kilometres north-east to south-west and characterised by steep sided valleys, rocky peaks, and the picturesque terracotta-coloured villages of the Berber people. From November to April, the snow-covered peaks of the Atlas provide a fantastic range of options for the winter hillwalker. The winter ascent of Mgoun takes us away from the crowded area around Toubkal to an unspoilt and less visited region of the Central Atlas. Starting in the warm climes and irrigated farmland of the Bougmez, known as ‘The Happy Valley', we will experience the friendliness and hospitality of the Berber people before heading up above the snow line, crossing the Tizi n' Oughri (3400m) to the Tarkeddit Refuge. From here, we make the challenging ascent of Mgoun (4068m), Morocco's third highest summit, but the second highest summit outside of the Toubkal massif. The summit offers a fabulous 360 degree panorama including range upon range of Atlas peaks and the endless desert expanse to the south. We return to the Bougmez Valley for a night and then this superb trip concludes with a drive back to Marrakech, visiting the spectacular waterfalls at Ouzoud. Although this trekking holiday involves negotiating easy-angled snow slopes there is no technical climbing involved and while an ice-axe and crampons will be used, previous experience of winter mountaineering is not required but is recommended. Fully guided this is a short, challenging and very special winter walking break. Please note that we are selling this trip in conjunction with our partners at Allibert (France's leading independent adventure travel operator). As a result, these groups, which are led by an English-speaking Moroccan guide, may have an interesting cosmopolitan mix.
