How to choose your trip to morocco

Morocco is one of the most popular adventure travel destinations, with it's wide variety of attractions and easy accessibility for European travellers. Most tours either encompass all of the country or focus on the south in and around Marrakech, with the historical cities and ruins of the north an alternative destination. There are many options for cycling, family and other specialist tours. Morocco is also a great trekking destination, with the option of climbing Mount Toukbal or more extensive exploration of the Atlas Mountains.

With over 200 holidays to choose from, KE Adventure Travel has one of the very best collections of trekking and walking holidays worldwide. Graded on a scale from 1 to 12, we have holidays to suit everyone. Our tougher treks are likely to involve multi-day hikes through wilderness regions, with porter support and tented accommodation. Whilst at the other end of the scale, our softer walking holidays are more likely to be hotel or lodge-based with a day-walk format and an emphasis on uncovering the area's history, culture and cuisine. From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

Trekking Mount Toubkal in Winter

8 days       from  £525 excl. flights*

Morocco's Atlas Mountains including Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest mountain, provide a fantastic range of trekking options for the winter hiker from November through to April. Just 2 hours drive from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, the high valleys of the Berber people are at their quietest and most beautiful at this season. Our well tried-and-tested itinerary includes a day's acclimatisation hike above the village of Aroumd, before we proceed to the Toubkal Refuge (3207m) and Toubkal's effective basecamp at the head of the valley. From here, we aim to climb Ouanoukrim (4088m), Morocco's second highest summit, and Toubkal (4167m), the highest mountain in North Africa. Spectacular views from each of these peaks extend across the rocky Atlas ranges and southwards to Jebel Sahro and the Sahara. Although this trip involves negotiating easy-angled snow slopes and ice-axe and crampons will be used, previous experience of winter mountaineering is not required, but is recommended. Fully guided, this is a short and very special winter walking holiday.Running a select few of the departures in conjunction with our friends at Allibert Trekking in France, gives the holiday an international flavour and a cosmopolitan mix!

Toubkal Weekend - The Ultimate Morocco Short Break

4 days       from  £275 excl. flights*

Due south of the 1000-year-old pink walled city of Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains rise to over 4000 metres and include Mount Toubkal (4167m), the highest peak in North Africa. Snow-covered throughout the winter, Toubkal is usually clear of snow by mid summer and presents nothing more than a steep hike on a well-marked trail across scree and rock. Reached after a 2-hour drive from Marrakech, followed by an easy-paced 5-hour hike to the Neltner Refuge at just over 3200 metres, this is a very accessible mountain and can reasonably be tackled within the course of a long weekend. However, to fit this climb within just 2 days (Marrakech to Marrakech) we must make our ascent from the Neltner Refuge, return to the roadhead at the village of Aremd and transfer back to Marrakech within a single, long day. This weekend will appeal to regular mountain walkers looking for a challenge. It offers the chance to experience the delights of Morocco and the High Atlas - a world far removed from our own. From the colourful souks of Marrakech, with their vendors of spices, carpets and leather goods, to the pretty stone-built villages of the Berber people, this is Morocco at its most authentic. For those with limited available holiday, or those in need of a quick adventure fix, this is a simply superb weekend break.
