Encompassing vast steppes, mountains and the arid wastes of the Gobi Desert, this is a land made for adventure. This stunning odyssey takes you from its capital and across the Central Grasslands to the 'Singing Sands' of the Gobi.In Ulaanbaatar you will have an opportunity to take in the stunning Erden Zuu Monastery, before driving out to explore the landscapes of the Terelj National Park, birthplace of Genghis Khan. Camping with local nomads, you will have a chance to ride their horses here, before moving on to visit Karakorum, the Khan's great 13th century capital. Then it is south towards the Gobi Desert and the 'Singing Sands' of Hongor, where you will camp with the nomads, ride Bactrian camels and climb the dunes.You then move on to the landscapes of the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park and the easternmost edge of the Altai Mountains, before returning to Ulaanbaatar. If your journey coincides with the famous Naadam Festival in July, you will visit Dalanzadgad to witness this most colourful of events.

Here, surrounded by ancient rock paintings and the remains of prehistoric beasts, you'll journey through a rapidly changing landscape of flaming red cliffs and lush fertile grasslands. You'll climb some of the highest dunes in the country and take in the expansive views, walk through canyons that are home to soaring eagles and grazing camels and visit the crumbling remains of the old Mongolian capital. A visit to the Erdene Zuu Monastery is then followed by a chance to explore the Khogno Khan National Park, before the return to the capital marks the end of this quite extraordinary journey of discovery.
