Gondoro La - From K2 to Hushe

An exceptional and ambitious trekking adventure holiday walking in the Karakoram Mountains of Pakistan across the Gondoro La from K2. This very exciting trek leads from Askole, via the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia and then onwards across the Gondoro La (5585m) into the Hushe Valley. Trekking in the heart of the Karakoram by way of the Baltistan capital of Skardu, our trek gains height gradually, with magical views of peaks such as the Trango Towers, Masherbrum and finally, from Concordia, of K2 itself. After walking up the Godwin Austin glacier to visit the base camps for Broad Peak and K2, we continue our trek through a glaciated wilderness to the Gondoro La. Climbing to the pass, we are rewarded by unforgettable views back to K2 (8611m), Broad Peak (8047m), the Gasherbrums, Chogolisa and also of Hidden Peak, one of the few places accessible to trekkers from which this mountain can be viewed. Then, dropping down from the pass, we can enjoy an sesational walk-out through pleasant alpine valleys to the friendly balti village of Hushe. If you are keen to visit K2 and have some experience of winter mountaineering, then this is the way to go. Truly, one of the finest high mountain experiences on Earth!

To the throne room of the mountain gods – Concordia trek

This trek includes walking the entire length of the 62km Baltoro glacier leading into the most glaciated high mountain terrain on the planet. Seven of the world’s 25 highest peaks rise above the glacier. You’ll pass monumental rock walls on the lower such as the Trango towers and the cathedrals. The Baltoro glacier ends at Concordia – a place where four glaciers collide under the shadow of the real giants of rock. Truly the throne room of the mountain gods. The trek to Concordia is a once in a lifetime experience and is glacier trekking at it’s best. A chance to reach the base camps of some of the world’s 8000 metre peaks: Broad Peak and the world’s second highest peak – K2.

K2 and Concordia

This classic trekking holiday in the heart of the Karakoram mountain range takes you to the glacial junction known as Concordia which is dominated by huge and encircling peaks. Just 10 kilometres (6 miles) from the precipitous south face of K2 (8611m) and nearer still to Broad Peak (8047m) and the stupendous Gasherbrum IV (7925m), this is unquestionably one of the most spectacular camping places on earth. Following generally good trails, our week-long walk into this remote area of Pakistan leads from the village of Askole through a veritable wilderness of rugged valleys and towering peaks. The scenery becomes daily more impressive as we trace a route across the moraines of the vast Baltoro Glacier, overshadowed by the sheer granite walls of the Trango Towers to our left and the shapely summit of Masherbrum (7821m) to the right. Including the option to walk from our camp at Concordia to K2 Basecamp, this universally acclaimed Karakoram trek is well within the capabilities of keen hillwalkers.
